“Was it a regular sprint or a Mom Sprint?”
Silly me. I hadn’t realized there was a difference. Last night I took my eleven year old daughter to her softball game. The whole team was there, in their uniforms, ready to play. Unfortunately, the other team never showed. So instead of going home disappointed, they decided to divide the team in half so they could play each other. They filled the empty spaces with coaches, umpires and... parents. I don’t really know how to play softball. I know you hit that round thing with the stick, and then go for a run, but that’s about it. “Play Second Base,” the coach told me. So I went to second. But I warned everyone. “I can’t throw, and I can’t catch, but other than that... I’ve got you covered!” Eventually my turn to bat rolled around. I stood next to the plate and held up the bat. “Keep your elbow up!” the coach advised. I did. “No. The other elbow.” Good thing the kids were pitching to me. The ball came, and I took a swing and hit it. I took off for first base, but by the time I got there, the ball had arrived first and I was out. This morning, I woke up and realized I was really sore. What happened? I told my daughter I was sore, and she reminded me of the game. “Did you sprint last night? Did you really run?” How fast did I go? I didn’t realize there was such a thing as a Mom Sprint. Apparently it’s used by people who don’t often try to run very fast, and is sort of... a jog. Having not been recently chased by anything, it made me wonder how long it’s actually been since I tried to move that quickly. The good news is, that I must have actually run for it, or I wouldn’t be so sore. The bad news is, it must have been a long time since I tried to sprint— Or I wouldn’t be so sore. I wish the best of everything to all the moms out there! You deserve an award, and you do so much for your families, no matter how fast you can sprint. © A.J. Park

My daughter always loved the quiet exercises such as yoga, so I never had to "mom sprint" I prefer walking over running, but I've done "nurse sprints" quite a few times working in hospitals. When the code sounded and I found out the location, I got there a lot faster by sprinting up or down the stairs than waiting for an elevator. Yeah, I was sore all over the next day, too.

I think the nurse sprint could compare! That would be a real full-on emergency sprint. As Moms, sometimes we do that too!

Although I was in much better shape when Jasmine was little, I am glad she never played much sports, Today I am having sympathy pain for you that I developed by visualizing me trying to run bases. Great post~

There is mom spirit, it’s the one that can’t hear you when you yell from across the house but magically hears when you’re regurgitating what you had for dinner while she’s asleep in another room next to that motorcycle engine snoring next to her. All mom’s have a bit of magic in them. Many women give birth making them mothers, but the special ones are the moms, they have powers granted by God himself!
